Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

4.0

the story stays pretty faithful to the key events of the mythology and the stories of these mythological figures, while bringing in twists to it and more depth and power to the voices of the women involved in these stories. i hadn’t really known much of ariadne’s story beyond the minotaur and was surprised and intrigued about it going further.

it was beautifully written and i enjoyed following this story very much. though for some reason the ending felt a bit underwhelming but that might be because i hadn’t known the story of ariadne beyond the minotaur and therefore had a hope of it maybe ending more positively. but i enjoyed the story staying truthful to the mythology while bringing in interesting reasonings for cruel moments.

though not at the level of madeline miller’s writing it is on par with how she writes her retellings and i think that if you enjoyed circe, you would enjoy this one.
