I listened to the audiobook for Sadie and I thought it was wonderfully done. The story is told in the POV of both Sadie and a podcast, so having the opportunity to literally listen to it was really cool for the radio-like aspect. In other words, if you’re interested in the story, I highly recommend the audio format.
That being said, I didn’t love everything about the book. It was plotted extremely well and kept me hooked throughout, but I never connected with any of the characters. Sadie’s flaws and motivations made her seem somewhat one-dimensional to me which, although that might’ve been the point, meant it was hard for me to fully sympathize or root for her. Also, the ending with very little resolution was upsetting to someone who really likes closure. Serial took over my life when I listened to it, but I still haven’t forgiven the show for providing no answers, and in the same way, my frustration extends to this one. Overall, it was fast-paced and gritty, but not really my preferred brand of fiction. 3.5 stars.
