Sinew and Steel and What They Told by Carrie Vaughn

“It’s the stories. The stories, the experiences. Everything. A computer could do it, but then we wouldn’t get the . . . the experience. The hormones. The dopamine. The endorphins. The meat and nerves of it all, right? That’s the important bit. We go out into the galaxy and collect stories, and then we bring them home. It’s who we are, it’s what we do. And love, we go out to find all the love we can and try to keep it . . .”

I found this free short story today on Tor's newsletter. It was a great story, very well told, the kind of story a cyborg would collect for his people. Sadly, too short.
