A Rogue in the Making
by Stacy Reid
Shortish book, so a fairly quick read.
Juliana is an almost-heiress, ready to receive her inheritance when she turns 25 in a few short weeks. Her step-father tries to kidnap her and force a marriage between Juliana and his son. She runs away and hides out in disguise as the (male) valet of Wentworth, an Earl who has always got his head in a book or is otherwise distracted by some mathematical problem or other.
Problems arise when after a few days the Earl starts noticing the curves on Julian, his new valet's, body and begins to question his sexual leanings.
Juliana is eventually outed as a girl and the two fall in love.
I always love a girl in disguise story. The plot was ok, but the writing was a little disappointing compared to Stacy's book I just finished, My Darling Duke, which was marvellous. There were some words and turns of phrase in A Rogue in the Making that seemed anachronistic or stilted and pulled me out of the story at times.
This book contains descriptive love scenes.
