Great book to round out Era 2 with. The Lost Metal brings back everything I love about Brandon Sanderson's writing, and does a terrific job in wrapping it in a Cosmere bowtie.
Unfortunately, several key character moments should have happened in previous books, and the tonal and quality shift from the previous 3 novels were jarring enough for me to not be emotionally invested enough by the time Era 2 officially ends.
Overall, I think reading Era 2 is fine if you're REALLY into Mistborn, but I'm thankful to have read the standalones and the Stormlight Archive first. I don't feel like I lost anything, and Brandon does a fairly good job of bringing you up to speed in everything you need to know for each book.
All characters are on full display here, and Brandon finally writes Wax & Wayne as actual long-time friends; Steris is a fully fledged character here, and I absolutely adored her for it; the Cosmere introduction is done fantastically, especially when compared to howthe Ghostbloods are introduced in Oathbringer and Rhythm of War , where no one gives you meaningful information.
