Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating
by Adiba Jaigirdar
Hani and Ishu, the only two Bangladeshi students at their Irish all-girl’s school, have reasons to “date” the other. Hani needs her friends to understand that she is bisexual; which they seem incapable of unless she also goes out with a girl. Ishu needs to be voted head girl of their school; something she can’t do on her own since she has spent all her time studying and none socializing. They both have something to gain from their fake relationship, and neither intends to ruin everything by developing real feelings.
This book combines the shenanigans of the fake dating trope with serious issues such as: toxic friendships, racism, and bi-phobia. Author Adiba Jaigirdar is wonderful at creating characters that are flawed but still loveable and very human. If you like audiobooks, this book’s, narrated by Reena Dutt and Shuhanigi Karmakar, is AMAZING. -Dominique A.
