If you were a fan of the Mistborn Trilogy, I would recommend this book as it is a companion book to that trilogy. HOWEVER, if you have not read the Mistborn Trilogy, I would highly suggest reading those books first as this book (and this review) contains major spoilers for that trilogy. You have been warned.

This story follows Kelsier after he was killed by an inquisitor in the first book of the trilogy, The Final Empire. Even though Kelsier was out of our sight for the rest of the trilogy, this book shows that he was not as far as you may have thought.

When I opened the book and saw Kelsier’s name, I was absolutely thrilled. I loved Kelsier's character and was heartbroken when he was killed in The Final Empire. That abrupt ending to his life always felt so incomplete so this book filled that void very nicely.

The book started off strong with some typical Kelsier humour. The name Fuzz, for example, had me hysterical for some reason, though that could be my odd sense of humour. My love for Kelsier's character was rekindled after reading this book, especially since we hadn't heard from his character for a lot of the trilogy.

This book is very short, being a companion novella, and therefore Sanderson had the difficult task of fitting a large time period in very few pages. It's not as action packed as the other books which is a shame since we all know Sanderson has a particular talent for writing action scenes. However, the story was still compelling and well written as his books usually are.

This was a good companion book to the trilogy. I would not say it was as spectacular as the trilogy itself, which is expected, but I did still enjoy reading this. Being able to revisit Kelsier's character also had me elated and definitely was part of the reason why I wanted to read this book. It was short and sweet and gave me more insight to the story and overall just a good addition to read if you adored the trilogy.
