The Spare Man by Mary Robinette Kowal
3.25
mysterious medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Possibly the main character is supposed to be endearing and hardworking or admiringly determined or something, but the entire time, she just came off as a whiny spoiled rich person (and occasionally pointing that out in the narration in a "oh dear I do recognize my privilege and I try *so hard* not to abuse it but it's just so *hard* so I'm going to anyway" way did *nothing* to alleviate or improve it). The motivations behind the character sleuthing her way into the story in the first place, besides being whiny and spoiled and rich, were thin, and the murder mystery reveal and explanation were very....eh, at the end.
