Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

It was better than book two, but I am so indifferent about Thomas and what was happening that I just wanted it to be over. I didn't even care if WICKED was good or bad anymore. I still don't even know if WICKED is good or bad??

in terms of actual stuff happening, there was certainly more of it than the walking simulator of book 2, but it felt so pointless. the most infuriating part was that, for a bunch of geniuses, they all seemed to go along with mostly anything that Thomas wanted, even if it was a very very poor decision. I've never seen such a strong case of main character syndrome than Thomas - literally was everything designed by Thomas just for Thomas?

I noted that there were lots of throwbacks to book one and book two, as if James Dashner got the memo that the rest of this series is not even remotely similar to the thrill of the maze runner, and we needed to be reminded why we even started the series in the first place and that, yes, we are still reading books related to the maze runner and things are now coming full circle

the only actually interesting part of this book was again Minho and Newt. compared to Thomas, these two actually had real depth and balls, and interesting plot lines, thoughts and feelings. too bad Thomas was involved in their lives.

finally, not to gripe about romance again, but Theresa and Brenda? Girlies, what do you even see in Thomas - surely there are better candidates amongst the survivors. also, hasn't it only been like a month since Thomas emerged from the box and only like two weeks since he met Brenda, and bro was passed out for most of book two.

overall it was interesting to read this trilogy so many years after the hype has died down but, ultimately, I think this was very dry post book one. I still believe that the maze runner should have been a standalone, even if they just killed the scientists when they broke out (sorry if you haven't read book one yet, but why are you on book three's reviews). Anyways, I think I might stick to the movies because at least then I can root for Dylan O'Brien.
