The Power by Naomi Alderman
2.0
challenging dark emotional sad tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This book is a overly trodden allegory and could have been much more concise - it almost comes off anti-feminist perhaps superficially intending to go off empowering and commentate on power dynamics between “sex” under the conflation of gender - the cis-normative was cringe. It also has very clear cringy racial & religious biases; it’s giving white feminist saviour complex. The GBV was explicit and unnecessary - not survivor centric. Anyway sad the plot et all was so meh because it had moments with good writing, just intolerable story, lack of self awareness and genuine critical commentary with poor character development.
