If you have children, get them these wonderful books (the series). They are warm, imaginative and fun. I probably read them when I was about 10 -- they swept me into the lives of a hard-working, loving Jewish family at the turn of the century. The scenes of the girls buying dill pickles at the corner store or sitting around the warm pot bellied stove in their family business or searching for the rewards of hidden pennies while they clean their apartment still come to mind decades later.
