Well. Not quite what I expected.

I wasn't much of a fan of the first book, due to various factors. However, this one was pleasantly surprising. Granted the love triangle could have been avoided, the fact that Lucas and Helen are cousins could have been resolved. (C'mon, that wan't a spoiler, you already knew that was going to happen!) The book was quite engaging, and the writing has improved loads.

There was one issue- Ares is the freaking God of war! He's probably seen loads of battles, you can't just call him a coward! Ares running away from battle? I refuse to believe that. That's just weird.

Jason was one of the few decent guys in book one (that I can remember of) and he turned out to be quite an idiot in this one. I don't know why he hated Helen, and it was never answered. (Maybe, he too loved Helen and was irritated to see her moving on with Orion? It's a little far-fetched, but you gotta agree its possible, what with every guy spontaneously falling in love with Helen. Even that dude, Morpheus! What the hell, Morpheus? Okay, I digress.)

Josephine Angelini has managed to surprise me by producing a better (not a good one, by any means, but still better than the first book) book. There were stalker issues that I didn't like (Lucas, I expected better from you! Et tu, Lucas? *sobs*) and Orion was really nice guy. He doesn't deserve to be treated as some kind of back up plan by Helen.

However this one was better, so I'm going to give the third one a shot.
