The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
by Anne Brontë
Emotionally provoking through and through. So much was conveyed in this bold and truthful of a classic. The writer's way and ability in communicating the life of women in a patriarchal, strict Christian law, so deeply rooted in male superiority that even when a man loved a woman, they loved them with superiority, with that element of condescension, in an era of machismo and the worship of men, women delusion of willful submission to survive was brilliantly portrayed. Not to mention the way the writer handled the issue of alcoholism, domestic abuse, toxic parenting, casual cruelty. The observation of all kind of human nature was so detailed and skillfully done. And what's more important, the female protagonist endured and survived with grace, thrived with integrity and emerged with such growth and self respect. The only problem I had, was the structure and the overall writing style. But the voice of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall was powerful.
