This was a really sweet young readers book about a small town kid wanting to be proud both of being gay and of being from his home village. As someone who lives in a town even smaller than Jake's, this story really hit home. It left me feeling hopeful, and not in a naive way. I also really deeply appreciated that one of the other queer kids in the story was from a very supportive church, which is not a narrative that gets told in many LGBT books.
Graphic: Homophobia
Moderate: Outing
Minor: Religious bigotry
