Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
2.0
I honestly don't know how to rate this book. In fact, I thought I have already reviewed this until I checked my list and found that I still haven't.
Listen, the premise is great and all. But something from the very beginning already told me that I wasn't going to enjoy this book as advertised by so many. I found it hard to connect with the story and the irregular capitalization of letters drove me up the walls.
I don't think that Piranesi makes a good lead character. He's not that very interesting. The first half of the book was spent talking about the surroundings--which had been glorious, to be honest--but it got old after a little while. The uncovering of the mystery started around the middle of the book and was given almost at one go.
It's kind of disappointing that he had the answers all along. The mystery is horrible but it's not that great. For something fictitious, I was expecting something more.
Near the end of the book, I was already wishing that I was done with it. If I hadn't spent money on it, I would have DNF'd this. But alas, I did. And here I am thinking that I really shouldn't buy physical books without having read it first from my Kindle. HAHA.

In sum: I would recommend this book who wants to take a break from heavy dramas. This is very atmospheric and isn't that much plot-driven, in my opinion.
