Beartown by Fredrik Backman

5.0

so where should i start? how can i put all of my feelings about this book in words? it was the second time that i've read Beartown and i thought it would be easier but NO! it still hits like the first time. actually the second time is more emotional because i knew what was going to happen.

first half of the book might seem slow but trust me it is necessary. Backman is trying to build up the characters who you will follow their journey and feel their feelings in every cell of your body. the second half speeds up. (i prefer character-driven books rather than plot-driven ones and i don't mind reading pages after pages about characters where nothing plotwise happens.)

it's one of those books that you can picture everything although there isn't detailed descriptions. you can see the frames of a TV show instead of the words on the paper.

Backman's writing style isn't everybody's cup of tea. i'm not a big fan of repeating tropes but Backman is different. every time he repeats the same words in each chapter they mean more and more as the story progresses. he is also one of those bastards who gives you information little by little and literally kills you. :")
his strong point is characters. he shapes and reveal them the way you understand their actions even when it's a thing that you do not approve. he explores the story and characters as many perspectives as possible.

writing emotions is hard. the reader must feel those feelings in their heart. sometimes authors exaggerate and sometimes they understate. the best way is describing everything exactly how they are.
and that's what Backman does in all of his books. the whole book is bittersweet. at the end he leaves you in tears with your hurt full of sadness and happiness.

at the end let me talk about my precious boy, Benji. he is my favorite and i guess he is everyone's favorite to be honest. every girl falls for him, not because he is one of those "bad boys"; but because of his handsome face, sad eyes and wild heart. because he is the best.
as the bass player (who we don't know his name!!!!) said: "Benji isn't like anyone else at all. how can you not love someone like that?"
