The House on the Strand by Daphne du Maurier
3.0

I did not like this nearly as much as "Rebecca" or "Jamaica Inn" or "My Cousin Rachel," and maybe it's because this is du Maurier's penultimate novel and my favorites by her were written much earlier. In general a lot of this just didn't really work for me. The idea of time traveling back to 14th century Cornwall sounds really cool, but the actual content of those "visits" were remarkably boring and convoluted. There were some interesting dark and twisty aspects of the story overall, as in each of her novels, but without likable characters or a more engaging plot I just couldn't get super into this.
