Am I a horrible person for not liking this book? With so many strong reviews from friends and a description of "exquisite language" my expectations were too high. While the parallel plot structure was great, the writing style was too simple. I'd been expecting lyricism or clever observations or elegant scene-painting, and instead got short nouns and adjectives. I abandoned it halfway through; perhaps it gets better.
