The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde
3.0
"The Canterville Ghost" by Oscar Wilde is a short story and considered a classic nodaways.
The story is relatively simple: An American family moves into an old English mansion, but there is already a ghost living there, who has already scared many people out of his living place. Now he tries the same with the new Americans.
You can't take this story seriously. It's full of irony and described as a parody.
The pathetic ghost tries to haunt, but he fails. Only the blood stain appears again and again.
The American family is far more undaunted than all the English ones before.
However, after the ghost tries another time and another time, it gets a bit boring, seeing him failing to scare the people.
Nevertheless, Wilde has created a piece of literature, that not only describes the differences between the "modern" Americans and the "traditionel" English people, but also is his very own variation of the horror gothic story.
