Abandon by Meg Cabot

3.0

In this twisted modern tale of the myth of Hades and Persephone, Pierce Oliviera isn't your ordinary 17 year old girl; for one she's died and see what really happens when one has passed on. After being kicked out of her old school, Pierce and her mother move to Isla Huesos, a small island off the coast of Florida to make a new start to bad for Pierce its hard to make a new start since the man who tricked her into staying with him in the underworld follows her around. It also doesn't help that she still has the color changing diamond necklace he gave to her around her neck.

For a very long time now, I have found the tale of Hades and Persephone to be very intriguing so when I began reading this book, I couldn't help but get addicted to it almost immediately after starting it. It kept me intrigued, wanting to know what is going to happen next. You wonder why this? What happened? and can't help but flip page after page (it also doesn't help how Meg Cabot ends all her chapters in this book with a cliff hanger), so I guess that's what made it so interesting, but when it gets toward the end and everything unfolds so fast instead of taking its time, the story began to grow dull and somewhat predictable (not to mention it started to remind me a little of another book I read which I listed below in the 'you'll love section'). Not to mention the ending (which I will REFUSE to spoil) was kind of a disappointment. I honestly had high hopes for this book (especially considering Meg Cabot is my favorite author and has written so many books in which I have enjoyed) and as I was reading I thought I was not going to be let down, but sadly I was. Not necessarily recommending this to anyone, but if you want to try it, give it a go.
