Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation by Anne Frank

5.0

“...beauty remains, even in misfortune. If you just look for it, you discover more and more happiness and regain your balance. A person who’s happy will make others happy; a person who has courage and faith will ever die in misery!”

Through the dark days Anne Frank & her family witnessed friends & neighbours getting thrown into camps & separated from families. This graphic novel captures the two years of her family living in isolation in the secret annex of her father’s company. Living alongside them is the Vann Dann family whilst receiving aid from four allies to provide food and other necessities for them. Anne shares about the living conditions and updates on the crisis. This novel also shares about her growing years; discovering herself, her desires & her conflict with her perfect older sister & demanding mother.

No doubt that Anne was only thirteen in this diary, she writes so maturely & I feel connected to her through her emotional distress & imaginations. I find it so remarkable of her to turn to writing, to pen down all these happenings that enlightens us today. This has been a fantastic graphic novel with the exceptional illustrations translating her diary. I look forward to watch the animated film as well once it becomes available!
