Strange Planet
by Nathan W. Pyle
I’ve wanted to read this for SO LONG and it did not disappoint! Cute and creative and a great coffee table book.
WHAT I LIKED
1) original. It’s not too often that books are actually entirely original works. The idea behind this- taking normal actions and turning them into bizarre renderings- is just so gosh darn clever and unlike anything I’ve seen before.
2) genuinely funny. You just have to take my word for it on this. Or check out the author’s Instagram page for some of the book’s content.
3) artistic. The lil beings are so simple but the artistry is still a genre of its own. Ties into #1 originality.
4) long time fan bias. I’ve been following Nathan on Instagram for some time and have been anxiously awaiting a chance to check this out at my local library. Anticipation alone and seeing the content prior to checkout made me love this even more.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
1) too short!! I will be checking out the next book as soon as my library gets a copy.
2) bit of an acquired taste. I wish I could show this to everyone I know and they could love it as much as I do. But alas. Being a graphic novel means some adults will be intrinsically opposed to the content. C’est la vie. Not the fault of the book but rather the fault of silly adults who won’t give different genres their fair shot.
