Moby-Dick: Or, the Whale by Herman Melville
4.0

Never read this in full until now—and, of course, it's a colossal text in every measure. It's not without its share of enervating bits, I'll admit, but this tale of revenge, hubris, biology, and philosophy has well-earned its tremendous prestige.

Particularly adored the chapters The Symphony, The Prophet, The Town-Ho's Story, The Pipe, The Whiteness of the Whale, and the conclusive trifecta of The Chase, which might have one of the greatest closing lines in all literature: "Now small fowls flew screaming over the yet yawning gulf; a sullen white surf beat against its steep sides; then all collapsed, and the great shroud of the sea rolled on as it rolled five thousand years ago."
