The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Vol. 8: My Best Friend's Squirrel by Ryan North

5.0

SECRET CONFESSION THAT IS PROBABLY NOT SO SECRET SINCE THIS IS A PUBLIC REVIEW AND ALSO I FEEL LIKE I MAY HAVE CONFESSED THIS ALREADY BUT HERE GOES: I don't read the script at the bottom of the pages anymore. I am old which means my eyes are old and the tiny text involves too much refocusing and there's not always enough contrast in the text/background colors so it was starting to become A Thing so I just decided to ignore the text and it's fine.

I will admit to going a long time between Squirrel Girl readings, so the tone was once again fresh and new. Highly recommend this method if you ever feel it's gotten a little same-y. Maybe because of that, or maybe because it was good, I loved My Best Friend's Squirrel—the Silver Surfer storyline felt a little long but it was fun so I didn't care. The last story, with the time futzing, reminded me of a Farscape plot that I liked, so that was nice and I approve. It was also very sweet.

I'm a little worried about the artist switchover that's coming in the next volume because I am THE PICKIEST and I've loved Henderson's artwork but let's be real, I'm not about to drop the title over that.
