Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

2.0

this book, imo, is a bundle of concepts that are imaginative but ultimately not done well, mostly due to the incompetency of the writing.
the characters are one-note and lifeless. i could not tell you a single thing about karou and akiva after this entire book; just how much of an instalove (bleugh) their story was. i loved brimstone as a character though, and i wish we got to see more of that part of the world rather then karou and akiva making heart eyes at each other 2 seconds after meeting.
i honestly think the book takes itself way too seriously and tries to be some grand poetic thing, instead of having some grip of rationality. and it’s a romance disguised as a fantasy, which is a pity because the world is so interesting and lively.
