Walking in Circles Before Lying Down by Merrill Markoe

Did not finish book.
The book summary made it sound like a typical "older woman struggling with failed relationships and a recent messy breakup learning to realize that her life isn't over and it's not too late to start again" novel with the twist of a talking dog thrown in to shake things up. But the book just felt unorganized and unfunny to me, so I was unable to actually finish it. Every character is a one-note stereotype of a stereotype played up with the intention of being "so offensive it's funny" and the narration/dialogue frequently starts going in one direction before making an unexpected turn into a bizarre statement as though to catch the reader off guard and make them laugh in shock. But it fails spectacularly at being anything close to funny because the "jokes" don't make any sense and are hard to follow, but perhaps I'm just not the intended audience. I was wondering why this book read like a bad standup routine.... and then I looked up the author and discovered that that is exactly what it is.
