I really enjoyed this book. I do love a spooky read but this is my first real dabble into body horror of this kind and as a woman, it did scare me, because a lot of what these girls went through is completely realistic to what women did go through during pre-Rowe vs Wade. I may be in the minority but I liked the audible version. I think that the sounds that the narrator had to make lended to the intensity and rawness that those moments were portraying. I've listened to mothers-to-be in a maternity ward, the sounds made during child birth are not melodic and beautiful - they're alarming and gutteral and heartbreaking. The book itself was hard to put down. I felt annoyed that life interrupted my listen-through because so many moments were filled with intensity.
Graphic: Body horror, Gore, Medical trauma
Moderate: Emotional abuse, Pedophilia, Racism
