While this is a horror novel, it is a literary horror novel that unfolds slowly and beautifully. After last year of reading frantically to meet a goal, it was a joy to take some time with this one. I had read it years ago, apparently before I was on Goodreads, and it did not disappoint in this reread. I would have liked more of the narrator’s own story, though I realize she is not even named.
