Unclecore supreme. There is a mess of overcooked setup but I can forgive it some wearying tablesetting: clearly Lee Child wanted us to get to know the town, the core team, personal dynamics etc. because he was setting out to write a longass series of airport novels about an iconic all-American meathead whose head is in fact a whole lot less meaty than we might assume. Lovable and I’m ready for more.
Oh, also I audiobooked this one and it’s easy to recommend. It’s a goofily long 17 hours but Dick Hill kills it. What a voice.
