The Secret Chord
by Geraldine Brooks
2 1/2 stars. Geraldine Brooks must know the biblical account of David well to write this book - it is almost the only record we have of David. Why she has failed to represent David's relationship with Yah (one of the terms she uses for God) is a mystery. In Brooks's eyes, David had very few good qualities. Her representation of David and Jonathan's relationship is also highly questionable and does them both a disservice.
The Secret Chord is an OK read but a big disappointment from such a normally very good writer.
