أرجوكم لا تسخروا منى
by Jodee Blanco, جودي بلانكو
This book is tragic and heartbreaking. I remember a girl just like Jodee back in high school, who had it worse than anyone I'd ever known. I often wondered what life was like for her and now I imagine that Jodee Blanco's story is pretty close to home. It might be easy to assume the book embellishes for dramatic effect, but I remember these exact things happening to Mary. So many spitwads and gumballs in her hair she had to cut it all off. The physical, verbal, and emotional abuse she endured every single day for years. Even her mom was assaulted upon coming to the school once. Though I never did anything to harm Mary, I didn't help her either. This book makes me think, What if I had? What would it have meant to her? I loved this book even though it was excruciating to read (and made me heavy with guilt).
