god giving this 1 star feels so harsh (give us half stars goodreads you animals) but like. i really didn’t care about much of what went on here
i truly did not care for Zippy as a MC. she annoyed me, along with most of the other characters tbh. i feel like all of the important themes - body image/fatphobia in the 80s, AIDS panic, being a late bloomer, seeing how your parents’ lives turned out and wanting to avoid the same fate - were super shallow, and i wish the author would have done deeper dives on some of these things.
im bummed tbh. i thought this would be a fun, very 80s atmospheric read, but to me it just came off as a bunch of vaguely annoying or unlikable characters killing time in the boston store at southridge mall
