A Girl Like You by Cari Scribner

4.0

Read this if…life has ever thrown you a curveball and forced you to start over in some way.

Jessica is nearing 60 as her life begins to fall apart. Her second marriage has just ended and she must find a job to keep up with her bills. She feels abandoned and alone despite having two grown children, a dog, and a supportive best friend. In an attempt to start her life over again, Jessica finally agrees to give online dating a try. While learning how this modern matchmaking works and seeing all the good, bad, and ugly offered by the opposite sex, Jessica learns that the person she needs to be loved by the most is herself.

This was a perfectly timed read for me as Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and I’m bingeing the new season of Love is Blind. This was such a fun story! I immediately felt for Jessica as the world she knew began to unravel. I was rooting for her to find “The One” and enjoyed reading about her numerous dates with online suitors. Honestly, it made me really scared to ever be single again and deal with all the weirdos on the Internet! I was surprised at the end when the book took a dramatic and emotional turn. I may or may not have shed a few tears for Jess when she hit her rock bottom. This book is very spicy and sexually explicit, so be aware of that before picking it up. I was a bit uncomfortable with some of the scenes, as they weren’t my cup of tea at all, but if you liked Samantha’s character from Sex and the City, you’ll probably enjoy Jessica’s bedroom escapades as well.
