Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate

probably because I went into this expecting something entirely different. Although, given the title and cover, I can't say it was entirely me to blame. I hoped for more twists and turns and second guesses. I didn't expect for the mystery to be solved within the first couple of chapters and to be reading about the consequences of each character's actions, some related, most un-related, to the 'scandal'. I did enjoy reading from each of the perspectives we got, and felt like they were really well separated from each other, a credit to the writing, to be able to have 7 distinct voices in one book. I really liked Lucas' story line and was probably the most invested in his journey throughout the novel, but I also did love the nuanced discussions of female sexuality in Olivia's chapters. There were some really great moments like that scattered throughout the book: discussions of gender, pansexuality, homophobia, friendship, guys sticking up for guys, guys sticking up for girls, girls sticking up for each other - stuff we don't see enough of in high-school aged fiction, in my opinion. Particularly when these kids aren't really 'friends', they've just been thrown together by chance and circumstance.
