The Good Soldier: A Tale of Passion
by Ford Madox Ford
This book is pretty dark. Plot-wise I kept thinking that this is what "The Age of Innocence" would have looked like with a few wrong turns--its flip-side. The style is interesting (experimental at the time, I understand) and it was a little difficult to follow at times--springing back and forth in time, contradictory statements, etc. As a result this book may be "important", but that is different than "classic" in my opinion.
