I really enjoyed this overall and was genuinely surprised by the "plot-twist" so I really appreciated that because I wasn't expecting it from this book. I also liked the main character.
However, I had two major issues with this book. I have to say that, first of all, some things that happen at the end just didn't really need to happen? Like it was rather dramatic and it didn't need to be, in my opinion.
Second of all, and this is what bothered me most, the main character wants to alter his memories because he doesn't want to be gay, which I get because I know what internalized homophobia feels like. And I thought this organization would kind of wipe out his memories of being gay so that when he wakes up, he won't remember, and I thought that eventually, he'd figure out that he's gay again and by the time he does, he will be more okay with it. I thought that the message would kind of be that you cannot change your sexuality because it isn't a choice and that you have to learn to be okay with it and find the right people who will love you as you are. However, I don't really think that this story did any of that, it actually seemed to be the case that the organization can wipe out certain memories AND it can "turn someone straight" (especially since at some point a character said that this has worked with other people like what??). I just think instead of the drama at the end, the main character could have learned this lesson differently, I don't know, some things just didn't sit quite right with me.
