What You Did
by Claire McGowan
3 stars. Loved the premise, one of my favorites really -- circle of friends destroyed by a horrible secret! However, I felt the execution to be a bit lacking in finesse. I didn't mind the protagonist so much, I know a lot of people found her to be annoying but having gone through something similar (perhaps not as dramatic), I understand the cognitive dissonance that can result from learning that the people you trusted the most have been lying to you for years, and having to come to terms with your new reality and dealing with the fallout.
Nevertheless, the ending seemed to both come out of left field, but also telegraphed? I wish there had been more clues or hints so that it didn't seem just a neatly tied up bow that felt tacked on.
Still, decent enough airplane read that I finished in one night.
