Ruthless Gods by Emily A. Duncan

Because of how much I disliked Wicked Saints, I wouldn't have read this book had I not promised to buddy read it. I figured that I should give it another chance to see if my opinion would change. I just couldn't connect to the characters. It was just repetitive pages upon pages of Nadya questioning whether to trust Malachiasz and questioning how her powers have changed. It's a back and forth inner turmoil that I just couldn't stand. Hes a monster, but he's my sad boy. I love him, but we can't be together blah blah blah. It infuriates me that Nadya is so emotionally dependent on him. This book could've been cut down significantly. There were points where I would read chapters of characters just talking to each other repeating what we already know. Why is this needed? So many unnecessary chapters and scenes that could've been cut. I read over 500 pages with my ARC copy of just characters traveling together, losing each other, finding each other again, and sprinkling in a new character with events that may cause complications getting to their destination. This was an opportunity to learn more about each character at a deeper level, but what we get is surface level conversations with again repetitive inner monologue with sexual tension here and there. I was so bored reading this story. I felt nothing at the end. This is where I depart from the series. I can't do this to myself anymore.
