If I had a nickel for every time I read a romance book where a social media savvy girlie goes to a small fishing town & falls in love with the local grumpy fisherman I would have TWO NICKELS… which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice. Not to say this book felt EXACTLY like It Happened One Summer, because it didn’t, but there were enough similarities that I wasn’t particularly hooked as the plot progressed. I was expecting a bigger twist or finale than we got- there’s nothing wrong with a Hallmark movie ending, I just usually like stuff with a little more drama. I really enjoy Amy Lea’s writing style & characters, they are diverse & feel so fresh in a genre that can sometimes get really repetitive. The Canadian slang & quirks are really fun, too. Her romances are sweet & spicy & the perfect little no-brainer refresh. 🩵
