Beguiling the Beauty by Sherry Thomas

2.0

Oh no. This reminded me of His At Night in very negative ways. Let me remind you of how I reacted to His At Night.

To the heroine: Oh my poor morally ambiguous desperately scheming darling. I understand that you need to find a way out of your uncle's abusive household. You do whatever you need to. You go ahead and seduce that dude. Or his brother. Whatever works for you!
To the hero: Stop projecting your fantasies onto a woman you've just met! You can't be angry at her for failing to fulfill them! Be angry at yourself for being such a jerk! DDDDDD:

Change a couple of plot specific circumstances and you have the precise same issue in Beguiling the Beauty. D: And I am sad to say Venetia did not win me over to quite the degree Elissande did. I've been spoiled by Meljean Brooks and Julia Quinn. I want to read romances where I like the hero as well as the heroine! Not ones where I make faces at him for a good 50% of the novel!
