Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

3.0

I'm not a fan of books written in dialect - I find that the struggle to understand the dialogue takes away from the book. That said, you can't argue with the amazing characters that Hurston created. She tackles the big questions of class, race, gender roles, and what it means to be human - black or white. I probably wouldn't have read it if it wasn't an assigned novel in class, but I'm certainly glad I did.
