The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman

4.0

This is marketed as a mystery, but is really more of a spy story. Mrs. Pollifax is a middle aged widow who finds herself bored with life, so she walks into the CIA and offers her services (this series is set in the 1950s). Through a misunderstanding, she is sent off on a courier job in Mexico City and hijinks ensue.

I started reading this with my eyes… This was a slow starter for me, and once it really got exciting I had packing to do and places to go. Imagine my delight when I found it on Hoopla AND realized it’s read by the delightful Barbara Cartwright (who narrates Amelia Peabody.) So fun.
