The Silver Eyes (Graphic Novel) by Kira Breed-Wrisley, Scott Cawthon

2.0

I saw the movie and became briefly fixated enough to order this graphic novel. One thing about me is, I love lore. The more ridiculously complicated the better. It doesn't even have to be good. Honestly, I probably get more invested when it's not good because I get obsessed with how it could be better. Weeks out from having seen the movie, the high definitely wore off but I was going to see it through.

The art style was not good. It was very adult webcomic-esque by which I mean it was kind of off-putting. The colors were flat, and the perspectives were often off. I sometimes wasn't sure who was talking.

The story had decent parts, but ultimately was messy, convoluted and rushed. I thought it was absurd how Charlie is like 'I need to find that old diner of my dad's' and then a page later just easily finds the diner right outside of town. I thought it was really weird that everyone was so excited to see Marla's little brother Jason as if she was a mother bringing her kid. Jason was a baby when these kids were like 7 or 8 and then after the tragedy all of them except one moved away. Why would any of them care to see this kid grown up? Also, I get everyone grieves differently, but it was still odd that out of a group of six, not one of them was uncomfortable going to play around in the place that their best friend disappeared/died.

Shoutout to the cop that died that the Chief is just going to cover up to protect a bunch of dumb kids from potential murder charges - you were taken too soon.

It's an okay graphic novel if you don't think at all and let yourself get swept up by the quick pacing. It's clearly for children so I'm not changing lives by stating it's not that good. Still, just because it's for kids doesn't mean it couldn't be better. Read at your own peril.
