Captive in the Dark
by CJ Roberts
So I have been going down a rabbit hole of dark romance. And I think I have reached the bottom of the hole with this one. You might think to yourself "How bad could it be?" I am here to tell you that the content of this book is dark, and sinister af. This is not a romance, IMO. This is about very very twisted people, who have been abused, and hurt. This book is graphic and it crosses so many damn lines that I thought several times that I should just put the damned thing down and go back up the rabbit hole a bit to a more comfortable area. But this book is about human trafficking and I have to admit I was curious. This book is scary especially if you picture yourself in Livvies position, it is down right petrifying. This book should not be taken lightly, but it is a good story, and I love a well told story, even if the content is gruesome and despicable.
People often believed they were safer in the light, thinking monsters only came out at night.
But safety—like light—was a façade. Underneath, the whole world was drenched in darkness. Caleb knew that. He also knew the only way to truly be safer was to accept the dark, to walk in it with eyes wide open, to be a part of it
I decided not to give this book a rating because I don't think this subject matter should be given a rating. The content is hard but that's what the book is meant to be about. And it is a hard dose of reality knowing these things happen. This book comes with a warning and should not be taken lightly, but I would recommend it still, just be prepared.
But mostly, I wanted to cry for being so horribly, tragically, stupidly female.
