Flight of the Raven by Morgan L. Busse

3.0

Now that Selene and Damian have successfully escaped Rook Castle, it's time to head back to Damien's castle and plan for the war that's clearly coming with Dominia Empire. Oh, and now that they're married, they have to figure out how they want their marriage to work, too.

Slightly spoilery, slightly snarky commentary ahead ...

SpoilerI had a lot of fun entertaining myself with seeing how the romance beats would play out when ripping each other's clothes off on the page wasn't an option. It's been awhile since I've seen that much angst over whether or not a man should kiss his wife.

Spiritual warfare was not part of the church tradition I grew up in, so I tend side-eye it when I encounter it in fiction, but having a demon literally chasing the main character through her dreams was legitimately terrifying.

Overall, though, I'm still impressed that YA fantasy coming from a Christian publisher kept my attention and has me so invested in it's main characters that I want to find out what happens to them next. It helps that the action from each book picks up immediately in the next, so I'm on to the third one already.
