I Made a Mistake by Jane Corry

5.0

I am a real fan of Jane’s books so I was so excited to receive an ARC copy of I Made a Mistake, the book is set around Poppy a successful casting agent who is married to Stuart and they have two teenage daughters.

Poppy and Stuart’s marriage has stagnated over the years to the point that they are no longer intimate so when Poppy meets up unexpectedly with an old boyfriend Matthew she is flattered that he still finds her attractive.

Matthew left Poppy for his now wife Sandra and they also have problems.

Will Poppy be tempted ?

The second narrator in the book is Betty who is Poppy’s Mother in Law and Mother of Stuart. She also has secrets about her marriage to Stuart’s father Jock , and Betty has kept them for many years putting on a brave face for her family.

This is a fantastic read, I started and I could not put it down, the characters are believable and very human and the author has a wonderful gift of hooking the reader in and building suspense throughout the story and this story is no exception.

I liked Poppy, she is all at sea with her life and when Matthew pops up in her life again she is flattered that someone still finds her attractive. However, things take a sinister turn in this relationship and Poppy is scared that she will lose everything.

I loved the Daughter in law / Mother in law dynamic. I have been lucky with my mother in laws and have good relationships with them and I enjoyed Betty looking out for Poppy in the absence of her own mother. Dear Betty, she has had a tough life and now Jock has died she is living with Poppy and Stuart and the girls but has many skeletons in her closet.

As always there is a big twist and this is something that I love in Jane’s books just when think its all over something else pops up.

Fan’s of Jane will love this book and if you have not read one before then you are in for a treat.
