Carpentaria by Alexis Wright

1.0

Overlong and waterlogged in more ways than one, Wright’s story brims with far too many tangential ideas for even her 500+ pages to contain.

The prose isn’t bad and neither are the stories, but the construction of them is hardly comprehensible. It takes entirely too much effort to try and connect the different tales and characters; I don’t enjoy feeling like I’m doing math while reading a book.
