The Alchemy of Moonlight
by David Ferraro
I had the pleasure of reading the arc for this, and I’d rate it like a 3.5.
The story was good enough that I read it very fast but also the pacing was kind of all over the place. On top of that, the mc Emile, repeats himself over and over and over again. Also, the romance aspect is all over the place- half the time you think he’ll end up with bram then you think he ends up with Henry. And the entire time is him being super dramatic about picking between the two.
This book made a huge focus on how he had to pick between the two just to end the book with a sorta “unconventional romance” (as they call it) that didn’t feel entirely sincere. Especially considering it was building up to him ending with one or the other and the ending just felt extremely random given the two main leads disliked one another for quite a long time. Granted it was a misunderstanding but still. It was forgiven in two sentences?
The most annoying thing was that the werewolf aspect didn’t come until the VERY END ????? It was so abrupt and randomly brought in mythology I just didn’t get it at all. The mix of mythology and werewolf lore was so abrupt and random….
I did enjoy it and it was a fun story that was a mix of ya fantasy and new adult fantasy. It had gore and murder which was fun but, again, the romance just fell flat in my opinion.. I would have enjoyed it more if it focused more on the development of romantic feelings and also did a better job of pacing the werewolf nonsense.
