Wikipedia plot summary is very good. 

 

🎨 Impressions 

 

I love how multiple story lines tie together ("real world" and sea of stories) and the writing is really beautiful (which is probably something you can't appreciate as a kid) - the words really transport you to this magical place and you fall in love with it. 

 

How I discovered it 

 

Dad read it to me as a kid and was very disappointed that I didn't like it. Now I understand why.
