Fairy tale retellings are something I always come back to and tales I always seem to find comfort in. And this is no exception. I expected being able to dive into this and happily compare the elements of the original tale to how they were worked into this new story. What I didn't realize was how much I'd absolutely fall in love with Alyce and Aurora. They might be my favorite wlw couple I've read. That makes me so incredibly happy as not only a fan of retellings, but as a fairly recently realized queer woman myself. I loved the dynamic these two shared and all the twists and character beats were well thought out, engaging, and genuinely surprising. I could not put this book down and I'm so excited where the sequel will take me.
